About Flatbed Offset Proofing Presses
These presses were designed to proof offset plates before going to larger high speed cylinder presses for production. They were also commonly used to print from flat printing matrices (like stones) and/or onto flat materials like metal plates, cardboard, and supposedly even glass! Artists and fine press printer alike love these presses because of their precision and easy access to the paper and the plate. It is also common to make monoprints.
About The Steinmesse and Stollberg DUFA 4
With a generous donation from a University program where the press had been idle for many years, The Bird Press was able to take on a major press renovation project.
